The present history of GILDAN started from two brothers in Canada taking over their family business in garment manufacturing in 1984. They expanded into the neighboring United States of America with t-shirt products from 1992. GILDAN took on international market in 2000 leading by entering Europe. It was registered into the New York Stock Exchange by “GIL” and has become the biggest 100% cotton producer in the world.
All through the years, GILDAN has developed manufacturing processes and expanded into spinning, dyeing and making in aiming to control the quality on every steps of the production. Currently we own 25 factories around the world to support our own 8 brands of (logos of ANVIL / ALSTYLE / American Apparel / COMFORT COLORS / GOLDTOE / PEDS / SECRET / Silks)
focuing on Environment, Social and Governnace.

In 2007, we opened biomass steam generation plant which provides energy to all our factories using renewable sources. GILDAN has been putting our efforts into environment conservation and our ESG program has given result of;
- 9-13 liter less water usage per piece than the average industry.
- 44% of the energy from renewable sources.
- 6.2% less waste per kilogram of product.
- 89% reusing of material from production.
- Listed on Dow Jones’s the Sustainability World Index consecutively since 2013
